Yêu Tinh - Poltergeist (2015)

Gil Kenan's 2015 rendition of 'Poltergeist', a remake of the iconic 1982 supernatural horror classic, unfortunately, struggles to carve its own identity. Rather than offering a fresh perspective or innovative dread, it largely falls into the trap of a safe, yet unremarkable retelling, failing to justify its existence beyond mere nostalgia bait.

Technically, the film's reliance on overt CGI for its ghostly manifestations often detracts from the subtle, psychological terror that made the original so effective. The spirits become too tangible, losing their ethereal menace and the chilling power of suggestion. While Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt deliver commendable performances, attempting to ground the family's escalating panic, their efforts are frequently undermined by a pedestrian script and inconsistent pacing. Even the seasoned presence of Jared Harris as the paranormal investigator can't inject the much-needed gravitas or unique character depth.

The film barely scratches the surface of the suburban nightmare and familial disintegration themes explored so profoundly in its predecessor. Its place within the horror genre is, regrettably, as a cautionary tale: a testament to the fact that some cinematic legends are best left untouched, or re-imagined with genuine vision, not just updated visual effects.
