Văn Công Viễn's 2018 adaptation, Yêu Em Bất Chấp (My Sassy Girl), faced the formidable challenge of reinterpreting an iconic Korean rom-com. The Vietnamese iteration attempts its own path, yet often results in a fragmented rhythm and inconsistent tonal shifts. The cinematography sometimes lacks the necessary subtlety to convey deep emotional resonance, particularly during transitions between comedic highs and dramatic lows. While the integration of Vietnamese settings and cultural nuances offers a commendable effort in localization, it falls short of elevating the film's overall artistic merit. The production often struggles to establish a unique cinematic language, leaning more towards a television aesthetic than a distinct filmic vision, impacting its narrative flow.

Regarding performances, Trấn Thành as Huy brings his characteristic charm, but his portrayal of the "naive" male lead sometimes verges on over-exaggeration, lacking the nuanced internal complexity that Cha Tae-hyun mastered. Hari Won, despite her efforts, doesn't fully inhabit the "sassy girl" persona with compelling conviction. Her performance occasionally feels constrained, failing to unleash the character's enigmatic nature and unpredictable charisma. The on-screen chemistry between the leads remains underdeveloped, preventing their romantic arc from achieving the requisite depth and emotional impact. Even veteran supporting actors like Chí Tài and NSƯT Hữu Châu couldn't fully compensate for the central performances' shortcomings.

The film strives to convey themes of fated love and personal growth, yet these are overshadowed by script inconsistencies and uneven execution. Compared to the original, "Yêu Em Bất Chấp" emerges as a pale imitation, struggling to carve out its own identity within the Vietnamese rom-com genre. It serves as a stark reminder that adapting a classic requires more than merely changing settings and actors; it demands a bold auteurial vision and profound understanding of the source material's spirit to truly resonate within the global cinematic landscape of film remakes.
