Alex Kurtzman's 2017 rendition of 'The Mummy', starring Tom Cruise, regrettably prioritizes franchise-building over crafting a compelling standalone narrative, ultimately faltering as the cornerstone of Universal's envisioned Dark Universe. From a cinematic technique perspective, the film boasts a few visually arresting action sequences, most notably the zero-gravity plane crash, underscoring significant investment in visual effects.
