In 'The Haunted Graduation Photo 2' (2017), director Isara Nadee attempts to revisit the well-trodden path of Thai school horror, yet unfortunately, fails to carve out a distinctive mark. The film endeavors to cultivate an eerie atmosphere through its grim academic setting and urban legends, but its cinematic techniques remain rather conventional, leaning heavily on predictable jump scares instead of delving into sustained psychological dread. While the cinematography occasionally delivers decent visual compositions, the sound design is at times overly theatrical, diminishing the authenticity of the terror.
Performances from young talents like Apiwit Chagurattana, Chanathip Phokha, and Witchaya Jirawesuntornkul, though not entirely compelling, adequately convey their characters' panic and confusion. The central message revolves around buried secrets and their consequences, but the storytelling feels shallow, not fully exploring its potential depth. The film serves as a quintessential example of East Asian supernatural horror, but it struggles to ascend to a classic status within the expansive Thai ghost film universe.
