Synopsis
The Continental: From The World Of John Wick ventures into the gritty, stylish 1970s New York, an ambitious prequel attempting to enrich the beloved cinematic universe. Rather than replicating the main films' ballistic ballet, this series delves into the origin stories of Winston Scott and Charon, exploring their ascent within the clandestine criminal underworld. Technically, the production design and soundtrack are stellar, crafting an authentic neo-noir atmosphere for the era. However, the narrative pacing occasionally drags, and the action sequences, while competently choreographed, don't consistently reach the exhilarating heights expected from the franchise. Performances, particularly by Colin Woodell as a younger Winston and Ayomide Adegun as Charon, offer commendable depth, yet at times lack the nuanced mystery we associate with their established characters. It's an intriguing world-building exercise, though not without its narrative lulls and a slight deficit in the signature high-octane innovation fans anticipate.
