Yamada endeavored to embody Ed's spirited stubbornness and internal turmoil, though sometimes falling short of the required emotional gravitas. Positioned within a broader wave of manga-anime live-action adaptations, this film unfortunately did not emerge as a standout, instead serving as a critical case study in respecting the foundational spirit and narrative integrity when transitioning a work from page to screen, particularly within the challenging fantasy Steampunk genre.
